Reading with my oldest two is such a blast, sometimes the baby can get left out of the fun. So today's book was mostly just for him - surprise bonus, the older boys loved this one too, and "reading" it to their baby brother.
This unassuming looking book is actually peek-a-boo with a twist. The book opens up to create a "mask" with several different animals and the sounds they make. Rather than holding the book at arms length, just put it right up to your face, make the animal noises, and watch your baby just crack up. At least mine did. His laugh is just contagious, and seeing mommy's eyes through a book cover was apparently the best joke he had seen all day. Those laughs are what got the other two involved, and then they wanted to be the source of joy too.
So, yes, this book is a little silly, and doesn't have a "deeper message," but the laughs were all worth it. Plus, animal sounds are a critical part of a baby learning language (who knew), so it is fun and educational. Happy hee-hawing!
